Born Belfast 1933. Although virtually self-taught, he studied for a time at the Belfast College of Art as a part-time student. In 1988 he was a prize-winner at the RUA Association Exhibition . He was elected a member of the RUA in 1999 and in 2000 he was awarded a Gold Medal at the RUA Exhibition. Norman has had many mixed and solo exhibitions in Belfast, Dublin and London. He is most interested in and enjoys painting the human figure and people form the centre of interest in almost all of his work. Norman Smyth would be present in most serious private Irish art collections.
