| Born in London in 1922. Studied art at Northampton School of art between 1940 and 1941. This was interrupted by the Second World War. After the war he eventually continued his studies at Goldsmiths College where he went on to teach between 1962 and 1983. He was elected a Royal Academician in 1998. In private collections throughout the world including the Tate Gallery, London.
